THE classic early Roses press shot, originally from a shoot for Sounds magazine.

John Squire had this giant printout of one of his paintings which he just stuck on the side of the bands old transit van; et voila, instant backdrop! 

Ian's gaze directly into the camera and the tight cropping of the image give a directness and intensity to it that the late, great Philip Hall, The Roses press officer, spotted immediately. 

This photo has been used a 1,000 times but I still love it.
